Late Cretaceous to Palaeogene carbon isotope, calcareous nannofossil and foraminifera stratigraphy of the Chalk Group, Central North Sea

A highly resolved record of stable carbon isotope values (?13C) the Late Cretaceous to Palaeogene (Cenomanian – Danian) was generated from ditch-cuttings material recovered Shearwater A9 hydrocarbon production well, Field, Central North Sea. The profile ?13C integrated with calcareous nannofossil and foraminifera biostratigraphy provide an stratigraphy for Chalk Group. Detailed correlation between associated biostratigraphic events other similar records both Boreal Tethyan Realms, including several proposed and/or ratified Global Boundary Stratotype Sections Points had enabled identification major Stage sub-Stage boundaries. This study provides a long-term near-continuous stratigraphic earliest more basinal facies is punctuated short duration hiatal intervals, longer hiatus identified whereby most Cenomanian missing at this location.
